Sunflower Kintsugi For Ukraine - Limited Edition Of Three
Sunflower Kintsugi For Ukraine - Limited Edition Of Three
I made three of these spindles as a way to support the Ukrainian people during this time of war and distress.
This is a LIMITED EDITION of three.
Each spindle has a Sunflower - Ukraine national flower - wood burned on it. A crack filled with 24k gold leaf is behind it, to symbolize the hope for a brighter future coming from this time of deep pain.
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
This spindle is made from beech wood, it measures 11 inches and weights 1 oz.
Finish: natural, beeswax
50% of the proceeds will be donated to LAV ( https://www.lav.it/ ). It is an italian organization dedicated to animal rights, and it’s active with the Ukrainian crisis. Not only they already donated 10k euro to one of Kiev’s biggest shelter, but they do runs at the border with a veterinarian ambulance and loads of food, both to be sent inside Ukraine and to provide support to the refugees that have escaped with their animals. They have also already brought back from the border some stray dogs. Finally, they work to bring awareness to Italian government to make sure that refugees that come here in Italy aren’t separated from their pets, and that they receive support in doing the mandatory things like vaccinations and such, that are demanded for animals here.
